A new display of hats and outfits are now available in the Kentucky Derby Museum’s “It’s my Derby” exhibit, showcasing the fashion from fans and celebrities that make the Kentucky Derby experience so memorable.
A total of 20 hats were selected for the exhibit from the Museum’s annual Hat Contest, in conjunction with The Voice-Tribune, and will be on display until June 2016. All submissions into the Hat Contest were evaluated by a three-judge panel: Kentucky Derby Museum President Lynn Ashton, The Voice-Tribune Style Editor Lori Kommor and Fashion Consultant Jo Ross.
Three new attires also are now available, including one with connections to our newest Triple Crown Champion. Jill Baffert, wife of American Pharoah trainer Bob Baffert, has loaned the dress she wore during Kentucky Derby 141 to the exhibit. 21c Museum Hotel co-founder Steve Wilson also has his outfit on display from the most recent Derby, while country singer J.D. Shelburne will have his ensemble as part of the exhibit for the second straight year.
“The new additions characterize all facets of fashion at the Kentucky Derby,” Ashton said. “The exhibit reflects the top styles and trends in wardrobe and accessories while adding a unique element for the experience of our visitors.”
Five special hats are recognized with ribbons indicating awards for Employees’ Choice, Judges’ Choice and the Most Representative of Derby. Anita Cauley and Jenny Pfanenstiel, both from Louisville, Kentucky, were chosen as co-winners of the Judges’ Choice accolade. Rose Monzyk, from Washington, Missouri, and Elizabeth Russell, from Battletown, Kentucky, were honored as the Most Representative of Derby, presented to the hats that best capture the spirit of the Kentucky Derby. As decided by personnel at the Kentucky Derby Museum, the Employees’ Choice ribbon went to David McRoy from Louisville, Kentucky.
All of these are available for public viewing with paid General Admission. The Museum is open Monday-Saturday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
