All of our Computer Services are free to backside workers.
Computer Lab
In our computer lab, we have 12 computers for anyone to use. All are connected to the internet and available whenever the Learning Center is open (except when there is a class). To use them, all you have to do is agree to the computer lab rules and sign in each day you use the lab. If you have a question, the Learning Center team member can help you.
Headphones: Are free to be used by everyone. Come to the front desk and we will loan them to you. First, you must sign a form which states that you will abide by the computer lab rules.
Computer Lab Rules:
No food or drink near the computers- No pornography on the computers
- No online gambling
Consequences for breaking the rules:
- A staff member will ask you to leave the computer lab for the rest of the day.
- If we see you doing the same thing again, your use of the computers can be terminated
- completely.
Computer Class
If you are interested in learning more about computers, we can help you! Our computer class is taught in English and Spanish every Wednesday at 6 PM. At the start of each race meet, we offer a series of classes for beginners. These introduce computers and the internet and help students set up email accounts. Later, the class moves on to more advanced topics, such as social networking sites and using digital cameras. Always, one class a month is an hour for questions and answers, when you can ask any question about computers.
Ellis: English Study on the Computer
The Lending Library has an English Study Lab which includes two computers and a program called Ellis. This program has lessons, practice and help in Spanish for beginners. The program also helps with pronunciation. The student listens to the pronunciation of a certain word then uses a microphone to practice the pronunciation and uses headphones to listen to the recording. The program also includes videos with real life situations and asks the student questions about the video.
Ellis gives students the opportunity to study English when it is convenient for them. The English Study Lab can be used when the Learning Center is open.
Getting Started: Talk to a team member to get a username and password. We will also show you how to use the program and help you get started.
Wireless Internet
The Learning Center has wireless internet. If you have a laptop with a wireless card, you can access the internet in the Learning Center. You are welcome to bring your laptop and use it in our library.
