KENTUCKY DERBY 2007
Churchill Downs / May 5, 2007

Street Sense, the 9-2 favorite, hugs the rail nearly the entire way as he wins the 133rd running of the Kentucky Derby. Under jockey Calvin Borel, Street Sense, in 19th place, makes his decisive move along the far turn passing nearly the entire field along the inside rail. The pacesetting Hard Spun holds on to the lead going into the stretch, but cannot hold off Street Sense as he pulls away to a 2-1/4 length victory.

Borel wins his first Derby along with the first for owners James and Ida Mae Tafel. This is trainer Carl Nafzger’s second appearance in the Winner’s Circle.

The 2007 Kentucky Derby is notable for hosting the third largest throng of race fans in Derby history. Many, of whom, crane their necks to catch a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth II as she attends her first Derby.
