The Kentucky Derby Museum is excited to announce the winner of the 38th annual Horsing Around With Art (HAWA) competition, presented by WinStar Farm. Nadine Seckman, a Junior at Atherton High School, has been named the Grand Prize Winner for 2024. Nadine was surprised at school with a dozen red roses and the news of her victory. Her artwork was judged to best “capture the spirit of the Kentucky Derby,” and will be framed and displayed at the Kentucky Derby Museum for one year. Nadine will also receive a special prize package for the 2024 Churchill Downs Spring Meet, a ribbon, a plaque, and a certificate. Additionally, Atherton High School will receive $500 for art supplies.

Over 250 students in grades 1-12 from Louisville Metro public, private, and parochial schools participated in the juried contest this year. The contest showcases the students' take on the Kentucky Derby in various artistic styles and mediums. A total of 62 awards were given out this year, which includes $6,700 being awarded to schools' art departments.

All 258 entries from 37 different schools will be on display starting January 24 through May 8. The public can view the artwork, which will be exhibited on the second floor around the great hall, with a general admission ticket to the Museum.
