To make your visit to the Kentucky Derby Museum the best quality educational experience possible, please complete the items below.

  • Review your schedule. If anything has changed or doesn't seem correct, just let us know. It is much easier to make adjustments to your schedule in advance.
  • Read and follow Visit Guidlines listed below.
  • Preview the exhibit experience with students. As exhibit time will be self-guided, this is one of the MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU CAN DO to ensure a successful visit.
These support materials will be distributed upon your arrival at the museum. Kids & Colts (PK - 3rd) will be given to each chaperone for use with their group. Roses & Riders (4th & Up) will be given to each student for individual use.
  • Visit Guidelines
  • Plan for a 2 - 2.5 hour visit with flexibility to fit your needs
  • Pre-divide students into small groups and assign chaperones (1 chaperone to 4 students for PK-3; 1 chaperone to 10 students for 4-12). It is helpful if students and chaperones wear nametags.
  • Distribute Chaperone Guides. Exhibit time is self-guided. As a non-profit institution we must rely on teachers and chaperones to monitor and control student behavior.
  • In order to maintain schedules, we expect your group to ENTER THE BUILDING at the scheduled arrival time. The lead teacher should check-in the group prior to entering. Students should enter in a line. We will do our best to adjust schedules, and reserve the right to alter your itinerary. NOTE: chaperones arriving late will be taken to the lead teacher before joining students.
  • Students should sit on the floor while viewing The Greatest Race. We ask that stools be reserved for visitors who might need them.
  • Do not use the elevator unless needed or instructed.
  • Dress accordingly as part of your visit will be outside. In case of inclement weather the final decision on outside visits rests with the teachers.
  • Gift Shop is available for students during exhibit time (or you may schedule a visit time), with a limit of 10 students at a time with chaperone present. Please establish your gift shop policy with students and chaperones prior to visit.
  • No food, drinks or gum are allowed in the Museum.
  • Prior reservations are required for any lunches in the building. A per student usage and cleaning fee applies. We will be happy to provide information on fast food restaurants and parks that are nearby.
  • Students should use the restrooms on the main level except for emergencies.
  • Give this map to your bus driver.
  • The Museum reserves the right to remove uncontrolled students or groups.
