Camino Flamenco

December 8th to the 12th, 2008
The cost is $4 per student, while chaperones are admitted at no cost.

Camino Flamenco is a performance ensemble of high quality musicians and dancers performing electrifying music and choreographies that display the richness of flamenco and the Spanish culture. Dancers encourage audience participation through rhythmic palmas (hand-clapping), jaleos (shouts of encouragement), and musical castanets. Students will be captivated with the bright, colorful costumes, powerful footwork and exciting music of Camino Flamenco. Their performance at the Kentucky Derby Museum will help to highlight the connection of the Hispanic culture with the Thoroughbred industry.

Kentucky Opera

I’m into Opera!

February 16th to the 20th, 2009
The cost is $3 per person (students and chaperones).

This program is geared toward elementary school students. It is a fantastic introduction to opera incorporating terminology and live singing into games, improvisation, and movement. The program is directed by the Kentucky Opera Studio Artists. Terminology is reinforced through an opera trivia game while an opera improvisation allows students to help create a mini-opera by filling in the blanks of a short narrative. This highly interactive program works for any age group. Study guide materials created according to KERA core content are available at www.kyopera.org.
