The-Power-of-Thor

The-Power-of-Thor

FEEL HIS WRATH! No, not the Norse God. I’m referring the most recent winter storm to pummel the area. Just as the mounds from the previous system finally melted off, Thor came and dumped over a foot of snow on our city, closed I-65 in Hart County for 15+ hours and cancelled (yet again) schools across the state AND the Kentucky Derby Museum for the 3rd time this winter. What a great way to kick off March!

Oh Mother Nature, you can be so cruel. She gave a taste of spring on Tuesday with a beautiful 65 degree day and showered sleet only 24 hours later. Residents across the region are feeling the effects. Laurel County students have only been able to attend school 3 days in the last 3 weeks, and unfortunately, that’s typical of areas all around the state.

With only 57 days until Derby, looking outside at the ice and snow, it sure doesn’t feel like it.

Regarding outreach, we had an overwhelming response and my school calendar was completely full by then end of August. Thank you Kentucky Educators! However, due to booking every possible day in the spring for outreach to make up for the days I missed in the fall, I have no rescheduling dates available. The early booking list for the 2015-16 school year is currently at 27 schools and counting. (Thankfully only a third are due to snow cancellations. The rest just REALLY want the program!) Hopefully the roads will clear by Tuesday, because I can’t afford to miss any more outreach visits. From Tuesday, March 9th – Derby Day, I’ll only be in the Museum 4 days. I’m sure I’ll have some interesting stories to post by then, so be sure to check back!
