Book Signing with the Author of Sham: Great Was Second Best

Join us in the Kentucky Derby Museum's Gift Shop for a book signing with Phil Dandrea, author of Sham: Great Was Second Best. He tells the story of Sham, rival horse to the legendary Secretariat. After defeating the mighty Secretariat in the Wood Memorial, many turf writers were touting Sham as the Kentucky Derby favorite. The stage was set for Sham-mania to sweep the country at a time when the nation needed a hero. But it was Secretariat who won over the nation.

This is the other side of the story of Secretariat's famous Triple Crown season and of his remarkable challenger who found that great was only second best.

(Please note: visitors attending the book signing can enter the Gift Shop, free of charge however, those wishing to explore the rest of the Museum will need to pay General Admission.)
