A junior from Mercy Academy has been named the grand prize winner of the Kentucky Derby Museum's 33rd annual Horsing Around with Art competition.
Kentucky Derby Museum is pleased to announce the grand prize winner of the Horsing Around With Art competition, presented by WinStar Farm. McKayla Rakestraw, a junior at Mercy Academy, was awarded the top prize out of more than 220 entries from 30 Metro Louisville schools.
Junior McKayla Rakestraw won the Horsing Around with Art contest. The President of Churchill Downs picked Rakestraw’s painting out of 223 students from 30 different schools. He felt it represented the true spirit of Derby. Rakestraw’s family surprised her at Mercy for the announcement.
Thursday marks the 100-day countdown to the 145th Kentucky Derby. More than 150,000 spectators will attend the sporting mega bash held on May 4 at the historic Churchill Downs. We've come to expect an epic day of horse racing and a spectacular party atmosphere and that's not just on the first Saturday in May but for the days and weeks leading up to the event.
