This tour gives special access to ritzy areas of Churchill Downs Racetrack, and for the first time ever, Churchill Downs is allowing Museum Guests on this tour to explore The Mansion at Churchill Downs. This invitation-only venue is so exclusive, it isn't even listed on the Churchill Downs website. The Behind the Scenes Walking Tour will take you inside this gorgeous space where celebrities "do Derby" and offer an insider’s view of other non-public areas including Millionaires Row, the Stakes Room, and private members-only Turf Club. Bring your camera for phenomenal views from the fourth floor balcony of the legendary Twin Spires, track, paddock and the city. *Areas are subject to change based on availability.
While children age 4 and under receive free general admission to the Museum, they will need a $20 Behind the Scenes ticket purchased for them to accompany this tour.
Tours are available rain or shine. Umbrellas are not allowed due to safety restrictions for Thoroughbreds on the track. In the event it does rain we suggest bringing ponchos and rain boots. The Derby Museum Gift Shop also sells souvenir ponchos.
Off-season Schedule (December 1, 2020 - March 14, 2021):
Arrive at the Museum's Visitor Services desk at least fifteen minutes prior to the scheduled departure tour time as all tours leave promptly.
Important Notes About Dates
Due to the nature of the operation of a race track and live Thoroughbred racing, these tours can be cancelled at any time. If you have prepaid for your tour, your money will be refunded onto a Kentucky Derby Museum gift card that can be used on future tours, in the gift shop or online store.
View amendments to the Museum's normal hours of operation.
