Our team is up early chopping herbs, preparing food, and dreaming up the delicious sauces, dressings and ingredients for the meals we serve our guests. We’re proud to use this “scratch kitchen” model, meaning we create all our food from raw ingredients that are sourced locally. The Derby Cafe Express inside the Kentucky Derby Museum is the perfect place to eat lunch. You can enjoy eating inside our cafe, or on our covered outdoor terrace, right next to historic Churchill Downs.

Some of our favorite house made items include:

  • From-scratch burgers with house made buns
  • Chocolate chunk cookies
  • Bourbon bread pudding
  • Seasonal ice cream
  • Kid-friendly options including quesadillas, hot dogs, flatbreads

Our full menu includes fresh salads, made-to-order paninis, soups and fresh fruit. Try our Kentucky-inspired staples like the one and only Derby Pie, our own version of the famous Hot Brown, and burgoo. All with family-friendly prices.

The bar inside the cafe offers 65 Bourbons and flights to sample and is an official stop on the Urban Bourbon Trail. Treat yourself to the Derby’s traditional Mint Julep, or sip an Oaks Lily.
